With the snow melting, I’ve been receiving many calls concerning moles. 9 out of 10 of them are calls concerning voles (Voles…not moles). Moles you will most likely never see, thy make ‘humped’ tunnels and up-earth your lawn and/or mulch. Moles eat grubs and earthworms. Moles I can control – voles I can not. A vole (just a fancy term for a field mouse) eats insects and the turf of your lawn. They will also leave a tunnel in your lawn, but no soil / dirt has been dug-up.
A vole can be controlled by a simple mousetrap (for all of those who can’t stand the thought of ‘controlling’ a mouse, stop reading now and just send me a blank check. I’ll stop by in the fall to reseed your lawn). I usually use a mousetrap from Home Depot which goes by the name Victor. It is beige in color, has a big red ‘V’ on it and looks like a potato chip bag clip.
Squeeze the one end of the clip / trap and place the open end GENTLY within the tunnel, so the vole can run through it. The vole will run through and WHAM! No bait is needed. However, if you have pets or children, please keep them both away from the traps. One to two traps over a tunnel should do.
TIP OF THE DAY…Don’t watch the news, it’s too depressing. If something important is happening, one of your friends will let you know!
