Getting that Christmas Spirit

I went to the mall yesterday and WOW - looks like Santa and his elves have been working overtime. Granted, I don't get out much because shopping and me go together like Grubs and Kentucky Bluegrass...they just don't mix! Everywhere you look there are red and green decorations, Christmas lights, silver and gold tinsel, half-off signs, half-price signs, 50% off signs, BOGO signs, Buy 20 and get the 21st free signs, etc. I hate to admit it but I did enjoy walking around the mall with my little girl...the ambiance is overwhelming. But why does everyone look like they are in such a hurry? Moreover, people just look mad, upset or just plain depressed. This is the best country on the planet and it is Christmas...enjoy life!!!

Well, this blog is supposed to be about lawn care so let's talk Global Warming!?!?! Some say it exists, some say it doesn't. Personally (and for those of you who truly know me...you know I tend to be, at times, blunt and not care about being Politically Correct!) I do believe in Global Warming / Climate Control but not what the media is spewing. I don't believe in man-made temperature changes but something has changed. No, I don't believe the Earth is warming (in fact, it is cooling - just ask the people who are wearing Global Warming jackets...yes, JACKETS!!!). We are not getting the snowfall (at least not in my area of the nation) that we used to get. I know people tend to exaggerate the truth when they look back to when they were a child but I'm not. We just don't have the snowfall like we used to. Sure it is cold, bitter cold some days but the snowfall is just not there. And that leads me into lawn care...kinda' like going to Pittsburgh from Irwin, via Altoona...

The snow is very good for your lawn. It brings the moisture table up and we need this due to our very dry summers. Remember to use rock salt sparingly around the edges of your driveways / walkways. Calcium Chloride is good but it may sting your wet hands and could possibly ruin leather shoes. Try not to let clumps of salt sit on your grass for long...it will kill it dead! Also, Pink Snow Mold will be evident in the Spring if you shoveled mounds of snow from the edges of your driveways / walkways onto your grass. There is no real way of getting around this except to not leave the snow there for very long. Either use a snow blower or go out and break-up the clumps of snow. Has Global Warming had an impact on grass growth? Tune in to future posts...!

TIP OF THE DAY...Believe in what you believe but don't believe just to believe!
